Random Fact of Hong Kong (Take 2)

In 2011, I visited Hong Kong and wrote about this Random Facts About Hong Kong

This year, I went again, 6 years apart.

While on the nutshell, it's sorta quite the same, but there are so many things about Hong Kong had changed so much!

1) The usage of Mandarin
In the plane, I told the couple next to me to reduce usage of Mandarin while in HK, as the people there will give different treatment to Mandarin speaking people.
To my surprise, China market penetration in HK has influenced the locals to be able to speak in fluent Mandarin!

2) MTR ticket kiosk
While 6 years ago, you can only pays with using ONE bank note, now it has been upgraded. no more weird requirement. lol
$50 & $100 notes are accepted only for fees over $30 & $80 respectively

3) Lesser rude people
While my biggest complain about Hong Kong is about how rude they are, this round, it has mellow down a lot!!! I think the only group of rude people are those older aunties & uncles. The younger generation has higher courtesy and manners

4) Friendliness still low
I guess they are being very assertive & straight-forward.
The fast-pace lifestyle also made them very rush.
I discovered that if you want to ask for directions, it will be easier if you give 2-options questions compared to an open-end question.

Example, you want to head to Star Ferry,
Instead of asking the bystanders "How can I go to Star Ferry", it will be easier if you ask "Star Ferry is on the left, or right hand side?"

5) Hui Lau Shan
HLS mango is still the best desserts! YUMMEH!
It's my mandatory daily pit-stop for 6 days continuously & I even attempted to buy one last cup before taking the flight.

6) Public toilet in MTR station
I clearly remember kena "scolding" by the janitor in my last visit that MTR station has no toilet, that one need to go to the mall for toilet.

It is now available, but only limiting to the paid area.

On the other hand, the malls (especially in Central area) is being reserved for tenants & will need key or access card to enter. We spent almost an hour in Central area going from malls to malls to find toilet yo!

7) Star Wars is now Disney!
I forgotten about that for a moment and questioned that why there is Star Wars in Disneyland. I momentarily unable to accept that fact!

8) Tim Ho Wan is amazing
I never visited Malaysia's THW.
the most awesome meal of the HK trip!

But the taste HK's THW is super amazing that I can feel my tears of joy eating the food.
When I took a bite on the prawn-roll, for a moment I forgotten about the skyscraper and immediately my minds felt as if I'm in the sea!

9) The final train (from Sheung Wan) is 1am
while returning from Macau, we missed the last train @ 1am.
So if you are at HK Sentral station and wants to go back to Mong Kok/Kowloon area, you will need to take the minibus heading to Wan Chai/Tong Lo Wan and then hop into another minibus. It will cost you about 25HKD per person.

10) Night view of HK - still amazing!
Writing this makes me missed the night of Hong Kong!
From the Tsim Sha Tsui viewing deck, the view from Star Ferry and the view from The Peak!

Simply mesmerizing!
